Hello world! How are you? Today is September 21, 2021 and you have made it to see another day! The past week has flown by. Hubby is back at work after a few days off and I am slowly but surely (Who’s Shirley?) getting back into a routine and that has not been easy. In the past two weeks I have been doing a whole lot of nothing. Yep, nothing. Nothing for me might be watching a movie on Netflix or sitting in my easy chair with my feet up sketching. It has taken me over forty years to be okay with resting and saying “Thanks, but no thank you.” This weekend, we did a whole lot of nuthin’ and it was glorious! You see, it had been hard for me to sit back and relax before (pre-pandemic) as anxiety would kick in. You know the “fear of missing out” anxiety which is much different from the being scared of heights anxiety.
The photo above is something I was not going to post but I love the capture that Hubby was able to get with his phone. I cringed because of the camera angles and how I think I look deformed. However, I see me, a strong chick, who was scared shitless at that moment because of the issue with heights, but who was not too scared to not live in the moment. I also see me in plus 7 pain and pushing through it. That moment and the several that we spent there that morning is what I want more of in my life. Moments like these are not fancy or planned. They just happen and sometimes they happen when you are too busy worrying about what other people are doing or trying to come up with new content for my exposed life. There was a time when I was anxious because I was not able to see a band or take photos or may not have gotten invited to a get together, but things have changed. Maybe it was the pandemic and all the restrictions that made me focus on other things that have interested me but I had never had time for because of life like drawing and painting and learning music and getting to know ME and finding out what I like to do for fun.
It only took me a few minutes to pick out the above photo as I had already done a sketch from another shot from that day. The above photo was taken in 2018 in Sky Valley, California. Sounds like an exotic locale but it isn’t. It was snapped by Hubby just North of Indio and not too far from our place. I cringed looking at this photo cause I look like Mr. Magoo, but it is a great photo to use for practice. It has been over a month since I have picked up a paint brush as I stopped sitting at the table for more than a few minutes before I have to get up because of pain. Without even thinking I change my focus onto something else, like learning to draw and sketch. For the past month I have created about ten or twelve sketches. Yesterday, when I saw this photo, I looked for my canvas pad and started sketching. Hope this works out and improves my painting. Update coming soon.
This sketch took about 10 minutes and hopefully today I will start painting it. I am sure that this is not what it will look like after I am done painting.
One of the fun things that I have done was do a sketch with colored pencils. I chose the one of Lele below as I liked the pose and the shadow, the background not so much.
Lele is an entertainer that I met while she was playing in a lounge at a resort in Palm Desert which was only a few blocks from our place. The shoot we did in April 2018 was impromptu and I had no idea of what I was after as no scenes started forming in my head. I remember when she picked out this dress I made her wear the boots as she was about to put on the coolest blue stilettos. Here are a few more from that day.
My imagination got the perfect jump start as soon as I took the first shot. The model was lively, like a wild stallion. The wind was blowing that day so thank you Mother Nature for letting me borrow your wind machine. During that time I was still trying to find my voice and be able to speak up so this shoot was a bit difficult. I did not communicate well and finally I just gave her suggestions and went with it. The shoot lasted less than twenty minutes and this is my opinion, it was magical. I have used this shoot as well as a few others to use to learn new editing skills and to work out ideas for future shoots. Since I had been having pain issues and spending more time in the easy chair, I used one of her photos to sketch.
This creation took two days from start to finish. To entertain myself, I take progress videos of the work and then make a Reel, like the one below.
I also learned how to join my art and the videos I shoot so this will be a fun way to create frames for some of the videos that are not the basic ones that come with some of the video editors. Photoshop is starting become one of my favorite tools to use. Below is sample of my first attempt.
Hopefully, in the coming week I will be spending more time in our studio as the weather is getting cooler. I am sure that spending more time there will get me to paint more. Also, I like my desk chair better as it is not so painful to sit in while I work. One thing I am looking forward to is getting to cook more as the temperatures are cooling quickly and winter is fast approaching! Don’t mind me, I love Fall but it slides into Summer here in the CV so I really don’t consider it a season, at least here…
Thank you dear reader for the visit. I hope that your past week was peaceful and you were able to do something nice for you. Hugs to you and you and especially YOU!
