Trips home to Los Angeles are usually big events for me. This last trip was one that I will surely never forget as the purpose of this trip was to see The Black Crowes on their postponed Shake Your Money Maker Tour, celebrating 30, make that 31 years, since the album debuted. The Tour was postponed last year because of Covid-19. This was the first time they have performed at this Los Angeles venue.

The Forum, or what I used to think of it as, the former home of the Los Angeles Lakers, is located in Inglewood, California just across from the new SoFi Stadium. We arrived around 5 PM as I wanted to make sure that I was able to secure a handicap parking spot as I would not be bringing in any walking aids and was not sure how far we would have to walk to get to our seats.

A few days before the concert, Ticketmaster would send out friendly reminders about the upcoming show. One of them was the purse policy:

We welcome Guests to bring: Clear Bags that are equal to or smaller than 12” x 6” x 12” Clear plastic freezer bags that are 1 gallon size or smaller. Small clutches / wristlets that are 4.5” x 6.5” are permitted and do not need to be clear.

This made bringing in the Sony too difficult as I was not able to secure a media pass before this event. Really though, I wanted to be fully present for this show as this was the first time that I would get to see them live. Hopefully, it will not be the last.

The Black Crowes started their set following the opening act, Dirty Honey. I thought this group of young musicians rocked that stage like seasoned professionals that had been playing for decades. You could hear their musical influences in the guitar licks and beats of their songs. I look forward to learning more about this band and hearing more of their music. So check them out!

The Black Crowes, started the show with Twice As Hard and I could feel the goose bumps forming. Their set only added to the magic of the night. The glass bulbs that hung above the stage made it feel like we were celebrating somewhere, other than were we were. There was a full bar including a bartender on the left of the stage and the back up singers sang from a porch. The night let me forget about the world for a bit and the mask and pandemic protocols.

It was hard to not sing out during the show or dance in the aisle. At moments during the show, I wanted to sneak closer to the stage to sneak a closer photo of the band but decided against it. I really did want a closer shot of guitarist, Rich Robinson, as he played an array of guitars. Does anyone know how many guitars he uses as it would be great trivia? During the show, I couldn’t help but snicker at those two Robinson brothers. One serious bro, Rich, and one, carefree and animated, Chris. I am the Mom of boys and knew those faces. A few times during the show, I noticed Rich would smile briefly, then return to his stoic face.

The show ended with them covering The Rolling Stones It’s Only Rock and Roll (but I like it). I was hoping for one more song but it was already a few hours past our bed time and I was ready to hit it and quit.
